Spain

QUALIFICATION

By winning the 2005 European Championship in Leipzig Spain automatically qualified for the BDO World Cup as one of the five continental champions. In the very exciting finals they converted a 1:2 against the Netherlands into a 4:2 victory within the last three minutes of the game.

COACH

After the World Cup 2002 Maurits Hendriks followed Toni Forrellat as head coach. The Dutch guided the Spaniards back to the top after winning twice the gold medal as assistant and head coach with the Netherlands. With his new team the extrovert 45 year old coach succeeded to win the 2003 Champions Challenge, the 2004 Champions Trophy and the 2005 European Championship.

Last year he was nominated coach of the year even before the well-known football and handball coaches.
